Design Work

  • E-Commerce Design

This is a 50% functional design for an ecommerce site. The specifications were to create

    1. a page for product listing
    2. a page for product details
    3. a page to display the contents of the user's shopping cart
    4. a page for the user's order information

The goal was to make this site as realistic as possible. In my attempt to simplify the shopping experiece, I combined the first two pages into 1 page, by providing product details alongside product images, and allowing the user to click on the images for a larger version.

  • Photo Gallery

The assignment, for those who chose to accept it, was to reach way back and reflect on the imagery of our hometowns. In doing thus, we were to create a Photo Gallery for said hometown. I was born in Paddock, South Africa, and I was raised a mere 2 hours away in Durban, South Africa. So I chose a spot not far from either, Port Shepstone, to be my hometown. I used the logo of the Hibiscus Coast Municipality as Port Shepstone does not have one of it's own. In addition, none of the images of the Banana Express are mine, and were used for purely academic purposes.

  • Typography

For this project, we were to incorporate typography into the layout/design of four (fictional) posters/websites. Paying attention to the personality/tone of different fonts to aid in, and not detract from, communicating the message of the posters was vital. We were asked to use type responsibly.

  • Design with Texture

The goal of this project was to design the home page for the Irvine Valley College course offering of DMA 180. The idea was to build on techniques already studied, and to incorporate the addition of texture to a website. Requirements were to use the logos of IVC and ATEP, the Advanced Technology & Education Park, where the course is being held.

  • Redesign the Color Analysis Website

The goal of this project was to redesign the home page of an already existing website. Since the only thing I could do to this particular site's home page was break it, I opted to redesign one of it's inner pages, which appeared incomplete and inconsistent and was a poorly designed form (in my opinion).

  • Design on a Grid with the Golden Ratio

The goal of this project was to design a professional website utilizing the Grid Theory while applying the Golden Ratio. This entirely fictitious clothing store is what I came up with.

  • Redesign a Website

There are probably very few people who don't possess the hubris to believe that Craigslist is in dire need for a redesign. Although the site does work, and quite beatifully, there is nothing wrong with imagining a facelift. Here is what I wish craigslist looked like! (Sorry, Craig! You still rock!)

Flash Projects

  • An Exercise in Motion

Sit back and watch things unfold. This was an exercise in creating objects in Flash, and causing them to move. I rather enjoyed doing it, and it's somewhat soothing to watch.

  • Creating a Clock

What do you think of such colorful time-pieces? This was a simple Flash project utilizing skills we learned early in the class. It was quite amusing.

  • Playing Games

We got to create a few nostalgic games. Get interactive, and then pick up a pen and paper for a quick game of Tic-Tac-Toe, won't you?

Apologies in advance for not providing a sound OFF button...

Applications Portfolio

  • CASE Tool

The LogiCASE application was built as a CASE (Computer Aided Software Engineering) tool. It contains the ability to create Abstract Data Types, Concrete Data Objects, and State Machine Objects. With these objects, the software developer can create Entity Relationships, Class Hierarchies, Data Flow Diagrams, Control Flow Diagrams, Data Models, and State Transition Tables. The application contains a Data Dictionary of objects and charts, allowing users to create, save and edit projects as one would create, save, and edit image, spreadsheet, and word processing files. It also contains a context-sensitive on-board Help System.

Developed for graduate Software Engineering Final project. This was definitely a team effort.

  • Mailing List Application

This mailing list program allows for easy entry of mailing data into a database. It contains a search function, whereby the user can search the database by any field value, wildcards included.

    Developed for personal use.

  • Task Management Application

This program is designed as a simplified version of Microsoft Outlook. Upon launching the program, the events stored for the current day are displayed, as well as the current date. The user can choose to view the events for another day by selecting the relevant month, day, and/or year from the calendar on the right. In addition, there is a ToDo List which is not date-dependent. The user can add and remove events, as well as edit existing events.

Developed for Software Engineering final project. Used personally for quite a while, because MS Outlook was way too heavy for me!

  • Loan Calculator Application

The loan calculator requests the user to input the principle, interest rate (as a percentage--decimal--value), and term period in years. The user then clicks on the Calculate Payment Button, and the monthly payment is calculated and reported.

Developed for a class in VB Development.

  • Calculator Application

The calculator is a simple (no scientific-calculator functins) version found on Windows machines.

Developed for a class in VB Development.

  • Alarm Clock Application

This alarm clock is designed to be set to the exact second. The user must select AM or PM and must turn the alarm clock on with the on/off radio button.

Developed for a class in VB Development.

    Used personally for years.
